The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run busts into theaters on May 22, 2020. Of course, that could just be the Keanu talking, but we'll see soon enough, won't we? Throwing away all of the shop talk of names and box office hopes, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run actually looks like a fun, and gorgeous CGI spectacle and that’s coming from someone who hasn’t always been on board with the legendary Nickelodeon cartoon. ![]() Though that just depends on what name the next film featuring Dominic Toretto and his family happens to take on, we suppose. Whether or not that title will help it win the box office from Fast and Furious 9, the only other competition in its May release slot so far, is yet to be seen. Don't you? Strangely enough, it looks like The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run had a bit of a title change in the recent months, as this project was originally going by the name The SpongeBob Movie: It’s A Wonderful Sponge. In that respect, this latest film isn’t only something that could potentially entertain child audiences, it’s also something that could trigger nostalgia for the parents. For as long as the show and films have been running, their talents have been at the heart of the story. Returning for their third theatrical outing in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, which is the first since 2015's The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, are SpongeBob and Patrick’s legendary voices, Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke respectively. ![]() Oh, and he’ll probably be dishing out sage advice too, because he’s a sage and he’s Keanu Reeves. That last location is where we find Keanu Reeves, shining in all of his splendid glory, ready to prove Patrick wrong about the etymology of his name. It’s an epic quest that’ll take our friends outside of the comfort and safety of Bikini Bottom, and into locations like the Lost City of Atlantic City, and what looks like a desert ghost town. ![]()
